New York’s attorney general, Andrew Cuomo, has charged that Tagged.com stole the identities of more than 60 million internet users worldwide – by sending emails that raided their private accounts. He plans to sue the social networking website for deceptive marketing and invasion of privacy.

Some players in the RuneScape virtual world found themselves diverted to a clone site where all their virtual belongings and private information were stolen. In a report from ABC’s Channel 15 news in Arizona, they show how an 11-year-old named Timmy (AKA Hellslayer H) was hacked a by a Runescape player.

Timmy’s family had spent overt $140 US on the game and it had taken many hours to advance to his skill level, and acquire his points. However, during the game, Timmy was approached by another player who asked if he wanted to join the White Legion Clan. When he said yes, he was given the url to another site, which turned out to be a clone. There he lost his password and belonging.

RuneScape spokesperson, Adam Tuckwell, said “We do everything we can to return accounts and contents to players. We employ over 180 staff in player support to ensure that we… maintain a safe and enjoyable experience for all our players.”
